"Ooops," Part II

Followup on the "Ooops; sorry -- wrong house," raid by MPD SWAT right here.

The Khangs counted twenty-four bullet holes from the doorkickers.  Mrs. Khang called 911, and apparently was told that there masked men who had kicked in their door and were busy shooting up the place were police.  Over at the Star Tribune, David Chanen characterizes the official "oops" as "Minneapolis police apologize..."

The Khangs are clear that the police didn't apologize.  Lt. Amelia Huffman of the MPD says that they have.

Who has more credibility?

Meanwhile, the MPD is investigating the MPD to determine if the MPD did anything wrong when the MPD kicked in the door of some innocent shlub's house and the MPD shot it up.  Seven MPD police officers are on paid vacation while that's going on.  Please don't stop taking your vitamins waiting for the MPD to find that the MPD did anything wrong.  Scurvy doesn't become you.

Needless to say, the swatzi fanboys are already chiming in.  My favorite is this [now vanished] one*, from one mall ninja [Correction] former mall ninja who now is an unarmed security guard at the Capitol[/correction] with delusions of swatness who frequently brags of his close ties with the MPD:
Scream all you want but the other two warrants took many guns off the
street and thats (sic) what matters in the whole picture (sic). The fact that the
home owner had a problem speaking English is no ones (sic) fault but his
own, and the fact that he fired first is his fault.

If you move here speak the FRIGGIN Lingo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah.  That's the problem with men in black hoods kicking in some poor shlub's door in the middle of the night, shouting and waving guns around, and shooting up the place, sure.

"mall ninja with delusions of swatness"

LOL. That's a nicer description than I've had in my head this morning.

One also might wonder about a SWAT team that fires at least twenty-four rounds and hits no one. I'm glad they didn't, but one wonders...

I don't think that's horribly surprising if they are using, well, military tactics. Which is, I think, a generous way to describe masked men in military gear kicking in doors and shooting up a house.

As long as the War on (Some Unpopular) Drugs continues, this sort of shenanigans is inevitable. Back during Prohibition, the Prohibition agents killed quite a few innocent people, and their bosses' only comment was "Well, they were breaking the law, weren't they?"

So the police say they apologized and the khangs said they didnt.... Anyone go back and check if they maybe apologized to the WRONG family? Who knows given their track record.

Yeah, an 'apology' carries a lot of weight after someone blows the crap out of your house and damn near kills your kids.

Tactical teams are a very handy tool for some circumstances. Unfortunately, lots of places you run into the 'all you have is a hammer' attitude, and the team gets used far too often, and for cases where they've got no business being used.

Someone once put it "In a no-knock raid, especially in the middle of the night, the police have NO room for error; an "Oops, we're sorry!" doesn't cut it when some innocent citizen has been dragged out of bed at gunpoint, often shoved around and threatened, or- worst of all- shot and possibly killed. Or seen their family, kids and all, abused.

The MPD reminds me of my kids. When one of my kids really screws up bad, he apologizes but doesn't get it that even though he apologized, he's still has to be responsible for what he did, and make right if possible. The big difference, of course, is that my kids are, well, just kids. The MPD can't just say they're sorry and go back to playing cops & robbers as if it's all ok now.

SWAT

Why do we have masked ninja style police in the 1st place?? Are they ashamed of the job they're doing that they have to hide?? MP5's will tend to shoot up a place. Again, full auto for law enforcement? There hasn't been a case of criminal use of a full auto in ten years. Consider this...."Scream all you want. Even though a couple of family members were killed, our other two warrants took many guns off the street." George Orwell would most assuredly have inserted that type of quote in his book.

What Language-?

EXACTLY What languages does one speak when armed men wearing black hoods swarm into your home firing bullets-?

English does not work with the Police since they neither read nor comprehend English as written and spoken by judges and legislators.

How many words would work to stop bullets-?

What a load of crap-! It's a good thing no cops were killed-otherwise the law abiding home owner would be going to prison for defending his family....
