    "Ooops," Part II
Followup on the "Ooops; sorry -- wrong house," raid by MPD SWAT right here.

The Khangs counted twenty-four bullet holes from the doorkickers.  Mrs. Khang called 911, and apparently was told that there masked men who had kicked in their door and were busy shooting up the place were police.  Over at the Star Tribune, David Chanen characterizes the official "oops" as "Minneapolis police apologize..."

The Khangs are clear that the police didn't apologize.  Lt. Amelia Huffman of the MPD says that they have.

    Who has more credibility?

Meanwhile, the MPD is investigating the MPD to determine if the MPD did anything wrong when the MPD kicked in the door of some innocent shlub's house and the MPD shot it up.  Seven MPD police officers are on paid vacation while that's going on.  Please don't stop taking your vitamins waiting for the MPD to find that the MPD did anything wrong.  Scurvy doesn't become you.

Needless to say, the swatzi fanboys are already chiming in.  My favorite is this [now vanished] one*, from one mall ninja [Correction] former mall ninja who now is an unarmed security guard at the Capitol[/correction] with delusions of swatness who frequently brags of his close ties with the MPD:
Scream all you want but the other two warrants took many guns off the
street and thats (sic) what matters in the whole picture (sic). The fact that the
home owner had a problem speaking English is no ones (sic) fault but his
own, and the fact that he fired first is his fault.

If you move here speak the FRIGGIN Lingo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah.  That's the problem with men in black hoods kicking in some poor shlub's door in the middle of the night, shouting and waving guns around, and shooting up the place, sure.

    * Sheesh . . . this clown is a newly-hired Capitol security guard who brags about how "...i doesw not take much resistance to taser a windbag who wants to tell me his rights." I took a screenshot of that one, too. Capitol security folks -- what kind of folks are you hiring?

The MPD SWAT Raid: the gift that keeps on giving...
. . . . well, it's finally gone public:  when the MPD SWAT cops kicked in the door of the house, owned by Vang Khang, lived in by Vang Khang, his equally Hmong wife, and their six little kids, they thought that they were raiding a black street gang.

Which means that a quick property records search combined with, say, three minutes of observation and a few not terribly difficult questions
("Say, Jesse, in your keen professional law enforcement opinion, don't those little Hmong kids in the house look rather unlike black gangbangers?  And ditto for that Hmong guy and Hmong woman?")
    would have given them pause.

At least, I hope it would have.  I hope that they were just careless, and didn't bother to take a few minutes to look rather than looked and didn't care.
("Shit.  We got a warrant; who cares?  Time to rock and roll!")

Riddle me this, Batman? Why is the Pioneer Press . . .
. . . so consistently better than the Star Tribune on covering this stuff

I dunno.  Maybe it's because when the MPD reaches into their collective pocket, they don't find Ruben Rosario.
"It was some bad information that was received on the front end, and it's unfortunate, because we have officers that were hit by gunfire, and this truly, truly could have been a much worse situation," police spokesman Sgt. Jesse Garcia said.

Geez, Jesse, what about Vang Khang and his family?
Well, yeah. Somebody needs to go up to Jesse and say something to the effect of, "Focus, Pinky, Focus."  The bad thing that happened wasn't that some people who are paid to take such risks got their hardware dinged while they were invading the wrong house; the bad thing that happened is that multiple masked, heavily armed men invaded and shot up the wrong house, terrorizing and damn near killing an innocent family, including six little kids.

Try to stay with the program, Jesse.
