    Quelle surprise, eh?
From John Lott, in the LA Times:
This wasn't supposed to happen. When the federal assault weapons ban ended on Sept. 13, 2004, gun crimes and police killings were predicted to surge. Instead, they have declined....

Gun controllers' fears that the end of the assault weapons ban would mean the sky would fall were simply not true. How much longer can the media take such hysteria seriously when it is so at odds with the facts?

    I missed Pride on Sunday
As per the request of some folks who can't do their carry classes on Saturdays, I scheduled one for last Sunday.  By the time I realized what the conflict is/was, I was already committed, and I missed the opportunity to work the Pink Pistols table, although Felicia and my daughters did, for a short period of time.  (A cranky 11-year-old is a problem.)

Damn.  It was fun last year, and apparently a good time was had this year, too.

Word I've heard is that the hostility that the Pink Pistols used to get from much (not, by any means, all) of the local gay community is diminishing.  Familiarity doesn't breed contempt; it breeds comfort.
