I missed Pride on Sunday
As per the request of some folks who can't do their carry classes on Saturdays, I scheduled one for last Sunday.  By the time I realized what the conflict is/was, I was already committed, and I missed the opportunity to work the Pink Pistols table, although Felicia and my daughters did, for a short period of time.  (A cranky 11-year-old is a problem.)

Damn.  It was fun last year, and apparently a good time was had this year, too.

Word I've heard is that the hostility that the Pink Pistols used to get from much (not, by any means, all) of the local gay community is diminishing.  Familiarity doesn't breed contempt; it breeds comfort.

...but for mild amusement, I used to love to get into conversations with Vegans and AIDS activists and then bring up the topic of animal testing.

It was quite amusing to watch two people who otherwise would consider themselves 100% politically aligned suddenly looking at each other like Dick Cheney and Diane Feinstein on a sinking boat with one life preserver left...

A few years back, PETA and ACT-UP would regularly get into brawls over this.

Just as an aside, I'm fairly squicked at the notion of animal experimentation, personally.

But some of the vaccines that mean that -- among other things -- my kids don't get polio, or the research into putting probes into brains that meant that my late Uncle Ian was able to spend his last years with his Parkinsons not making his life a living hell, were only possible through animal experimentation, and I'd trade a lot mountain of cute puppies, cuter kittens, and nice chimps for that, even if it meant that I had to get my own hands dirty.

With Alzheimer's running in my family (my aunt, my uncle, possibly my father), I'm glad for anything that gives another inch toward prevention or a cure.

...further, yeah, I really don't want my kids getting polio...and to save a human life...any human life, I'd stand right next to you trading those animals for the human.

The booth looked great! Mark gave a complimentary self-defense class.
And the festival was packed!
